It is a large home with a pool. The house was built in 1939, has nine bedrooms, 8.5 bathrooms, and 9,540 square feet of living space.

 The mailing addresses for Suzanne Spence’s property assessments are both listed as 2021 S. Warson Rd., St. Louis, MO 63124. Looking at that address, it appears that it may actually be the

Spence family’s main residence as it is listed as jointly owned by David and Suzanne Spence. The property on Warson is valued at $6,092,300, with an assessed value of$1,157,540. This is

an increase from 2010’s value of $3.76 million. "...Less than a month after implementing a new cross-matching process with the Department of Corrections, the Missouri Department of Labor has already prevented one inmate from trying to obtain unemployment benefits and caught 11 others who have tried in the past..."

Uh, using a new system they caught twelve people. The system worked. Did anyone in Governor Jay Nixon's (D) administration state that prisoners should receive unemployment?
"...'People in prison are not eligible to collect unemployment benefits. Period,' said Department of Labor Director Larry Rebman..."

Okay, that's settled.

In FY 2010 the total (male and female) incarcerated population reported [pdf] by the Missouri Department of Corrections was 30,418.

Twelve out of 30,418.

Then why the Twitter post from Dave Spence's (r) campaign touting a "poll" for a non-issue? Seems like an awful waste of $2 million.

A close circle of millionaire buddies of Spence with vested interest raise money for their friend. Watch out Missouri voters, millionaire Spence and his wealthy cronies want to buy the Governor's office!

"A handful of area businessmen have helped one of their own, Republican gubernatorial hopeful Dave Spence, outpace Gov. Jay Nixon in big donations for the first part of this month.

Since Nov. 29, Spence has collected $280,000 in contributions of more than $5,000, compared to $98,000 for Nixon, a Democrat who has been very successful in the fundraising department.

Nixon still maintains a large fiscal edge, with more than $4.22 million in the bank as of his last campaign report, filed Oct. 15. But Spence appears to be working hard to catch up early.

Spence (click here for the Beacon's earlier interview) will file his first campaign-finance report on Jan. 15, when Nixon also will report his latest numbers. Until then, neither candidate is reporting any donations of $5,000 or less.

Spence's early large donations came from seven area businessmen, two of whom -- Bill Koman and Robert O'Brien -- gave $100,000 apiece.

In addition, Spence donated $2 million of his own money to his campaign.
With exceptions of O'Brien and Koman, Spence's donors have not been major campaign contributors to other candidates.

The others are:

• Keith Strope, chief executive of Tricor Braun
• Kevin Maher, president of St. Charles Automotive
• John Tlapek, principal with Equity Group
• Mark Mays, with Clear Channel
• Daniel Creston, executive vice president with Alpha Packaging, a firm owned by Spence and an equity group

Although Spence is holding off on any public events or on-the-record interviews, he has been traveling the state to privately court fellow Republicans. Aside from the economic issues, Spence also is emphasizing his social conservative status.

A Catholic, Spence notes that he is opposed to abortion and embryonic stem-cell research. That latter stance is underscored by his wife's donation of $2,500 in 2006 against Amendment 2, the constitutional change that protects all forms of stem-cell research allowed under federal law. Amendment 2 narrowly passed statewide in 2006.

That stance may help Spence with some area businesspeople, and hurt him with others, since many were involved on both sides of the Amendment 2 campaign.

UPDATE: Later Friday, the Missouri Democratic Party offered up its comments, as the party continued its attacks on Spence's side job as a board member for Reliance Bank:

"It's no surprise that Spence turned to his friends for money because it will be hard to convince anyone outside his close circle of friends to give their money to a candidate who took a $40 million bank bailout and refused to pay it back. Dave Spence profited from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) or simply bank bailout by the US government. As part of his strategy to run for the Missouri governor's race in 2012, Dave Spence is now running against TARP and other federal government efforts to prop up the economy. Spence praised TARP when the bank he presided over got $42, 000, 000 bailout. Now he can neither explain why his bank failed to pay back the taxpayers' money nor why he abruptly resigned.

"In early 2009, Reliance Bancshares received $42 million in money from the federal Troubled Asset Relief Program, also known as TARP — or simply, the "bank bailout.''

Last February, Reliance announced that it was postponing its first annual payment to TARP of $2.2 million because of continued financial strain.

And in between, in the fall of 2010, Spence spent $1.5 million to buy 500,000 shares of Reliance stock.

Those facts alone — even without Spence's explanation — are enough to touch off political debate because TARP is not a popular issue within the conservative Republican base and bankers aren't held in high esteem these days by the rank-and-file in either party.

In Spence's case, the Missouri Democratic Party also is questioning his explanations about his dealings with Reliance, particularly when compared with the bank's written statements filed with the federal Securities and Exchange Commission."

The Democreatic Party says Spence is lying about reasons for leaving Reliance Bank and how much he profited from TARP (click the link). Mr. Spence has not addressed those accusations so far. He has to do that for the Missouri voters to trust him with the Governor's office in 2012. It seems the main strategy of millionaire Spence is to pour his immense wealth into the 2012 race to buy his way into the Governor's mansion!

Dave Spence has lied about how he benefited from the $42,000,00 TARP bailout the bank he presided over received (click the link). He has also lied about why he resigned from the bank by giving inconsistent responses. 

Spence told PoliticMo on Tuesday that he resigned from the board in March because of the issue, although paperwork filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission says his March resignation was "not related to any disagreements with [Reliance Bancshares'] operations, policies or practices." Dave Spence lied to Peter Kinder, his fraternity brother, about his intention of running for Missouri Governor's race in 2012. "Spence Wants Government Off the Backs of Private Business Unless it's His Business"

"It's no surprise when a republican runs around blasting government spending and regulations when trying to score points with taxpayers, but can you get any more hypocritical than Dave Spence?

I guess Spence completely forgot about the $40 million bailout that his bank received while he served on the board and has subsequently refused to pay back.  Let's not forget that when pressed on the issue, Spence has repeatedly refused to give a straight answer why his bank hasn't repaid the taxpayer dollars, even after pouring $2 million into his own campaign fund.

Granted, Spence remembered his failed bank's bailout just a few days ago, saying “I don’t know what the system would have done without it,” while giving an interview to KTVI.

Additionally, Spence has previously praised TARP, referring to it as an "extra cushion of capital" and allowing banks to avoid disaster.  I wonder what his answer to taxpayers would be who are left holding the bag of his failed bank's bailout which they refuse to pay back.

Dave Spence was arrested for DUI in 2004. Why was this millionaire who owns an $8,000,000 mansion and several luxurious cars driving while tipsy? Why wasn't Suzanne Spence,  his wife, with him at the party? These are the questions that will linger in voters' minds! Spence needs to provide more information! He needs to come clean! ST. LOUIS • Republican businessman Dave Spence, whose past and personal life will face fresh scrutiny now that he is running for governor, acknowledged this week that he was arrested seven years ago for drunken driving.

State records show that Spence, 53, had his driver's license suspended for three months after a DUI stop in July 2004. His blood-alcohol level was .120 — over the legal limit of .08.

Spence said in an interview Tuesday that he was stopped in Warson Woods after a night celebrating downtown with friends.

"I don't feel good about it, but it happened and I owned up to it and I learned a lesson and I moved on," Spence said. "That's really the one blemish on my record."

Spence said he actually used a car service to get downtown — but, after returning to his friend's home from downtown, he attempted to drive back to his own house in Huntleigh, even though he had been drinking.

"I made a mistake. I was close to home and obviously the facts speak for themselves," Spence said. "I was guilty. I felt bad about it."

Spence said he was booked by Warson Woods police, and took a taxi home from the police station.

For Missouri Republicans, Spence is not the first candidate on the 2012 ballot whose campaign roll out included explaining a DUI arrest.

Senate hopeful John Brunner — who, like Spence, is making his first run for office after a long career in business — had his license suspended after being pulled over for drunken driving in August 2004, a month after Spence's arrest.

Judging by the reaction to Brunner's drunk driving incident — neither Democrats or his GOP primary rivals made an issue of it —the political fallout from Spence's DUI could be minimal.

Dave Spence is a Republican millionaire who wants buy the Missouri Governor's office using his immense wealth. He lives in a $8,000,000 mansion in St.Louis. He vows to take away the rights of the police and firefighters that protect us, nurses that treat us, teachers that educate our children you name it. He vows to destroy the Missouri middle class. He benefited from the federal TARP or bank bailout when he presided over Reliance bank in St. Louis but has been caught lying about it! Hi bank refused to pay back the taxpayers' $42,000,000 TARP bailout! He is connected with Wall Street! This is greed pure and simple! Now Dave Spence wants our votes to enrich himself all the more! Doesn't this remind you of Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin and Gov. John Kasick of Ohio?

Dave Spence, a millionaire who owns this $8,000,000 mansion wants to be Missouri's next governor.  He is a conservative who benefited from the federal TARP when his bank took a $42,000,000 bailout but is unable to defend his records. Mr. Spence is part of the 1% Americans who control the system at the expense of the 99% who are reeling from the effect of the recession! If elected governor he will only think of his profit and that of his opulent friends like St. Louis tycoon developer Williams Koman. Mr. Koman contributed $100,000 to Spence's campaign. You lost your job, home, health care, retirement etc or squeaking by!
