Spence is heartless! He couldn't even sympathize with the recent tornado victims.

"Dave Spence, a former St. Louis executive, implied that he feels the natural disasters over the last year have been good for Nixon politically."

“If the tornado’s would stop, it would be a great deal for us,” Spence said, to some laughter from the audience, in response to the same question. “At times he’s doing his job, and people want to give him sainthood for doing his job.”

"In an interview after the forum, Spence told PoliticMo he does not “want to take away from what [Nixon] has done,” but beyond “doing his job,” Spence said “there is a point of exploitation.”
Of his comments, Spence said he wasn’t trying “to do anything that flirts with making light of a natural disaster.” Read more>>

Our addition:

Instead of millionaire Home Economist Dave Spence, worth $265,000,000 and living in a $8,000,000 palace with a golf course, rushing with his wealth to help the recent tornado victims, he criticized Gov. Nixon for promptly inspecting the tornado-ravaged areas. The Governor rushed to the tornado-hit areas to help the victims. Gov. Nixon is a real leader. It's no wonder the recent polls show that he is ahead of Spence by 20% (Nixon 47%, Spence 27%).

Dave Spence's $8,000,000 mansion in St. Louis. Instead of the man who lives in such a luxury rushing to help the tornado victims with at least some supplies out of his $265,000,000, he said the recent wave of tornadoes have been politically good for Gov. Nixon! Spence is insensitive to the victims of the tornadoes! So heartless! Would you elect Spence to be the next Governor of Missouri in 2012? Spence wants to be Missouri's Governor to enrich himself and his friends. Instead of sending a worth of sympathy to the tornado victims, Dave Spence attacks Gov. Nixon for rushing to the devastated areas.

MISSOURIANS WHAT OTHER EVIDENCE DO YOU NEED? MILLIONAIRE DAVE SPENCE HAS COME OUT IN HIS TRUE COLORS! HE IS HEARTLESS! HE CAN'T EVEN SYMPATHIZE WITH HIS FELLOW CITIZENS WHOSE VOTES HE IS SEEKING TO BECOME THE NEXT GOVERNOR OF MISSOURI.

Doesn't Home Economist Spence look sassy in a chef's hat? Come on give credit where due!

Republican hopeful Dave Spence ended up on The Tonight Show, Politico

Missouri — Republican hopeful Dave Spence ended up on The Tonight Show — but for all the wrong reasons if you’re a nascent candidate. Jay Leno included Spence’s gaffe — claiming to have an economics degree when his schooling was actually in home economics — in his headlines bit. But the more potentially damaging news for Spence was a poll showing him behind Republican Bill Randles, a little-known Harvard lawyer who has been mostly dismissed by the GOP establishment. Spence has the personal wealth to make inroads, but when the president of the Missouri chamber of commerce is showing up at a fundraiser for Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon, it underscores the long tough slog Spence has ahead of him even with those in his own party.

Dave Spence's Degree of Difficulty in Missouri, NationalJournal

Given that the economy is the top issue in just about every statewide race right now, it's only natural for a candidate to tout his or her credentials on the subject.
If, say, you have an economics degree, it would be prudent to point that out -- as Dave Spence, Republican candidate for governor in Missouri does.
"After high school, Dave attended University of Missouri-Columbia and earned a degree in Economics," says the biography on his campaign website.
Not a bad idea to include that information ... unless it's not completely accurate, as the St. Louis Post-Dispatch finds:

According to the university, Spence's degree is not in economics. It is in home economics.
The school says that Spence majored in family economics and management -- also called consumer economics -- which earned him a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Home Economics in 1981.
...
"I was not the greatest student in the world," Spence said. "I'll make fun of myself: I was a 60-watt bulb in a 100-watt society." Courtesy of NationalJournal Hotline On Call.

Short Take: Dave Spence finds it's a bit hot in the kitchen, St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Dave Spence

There might be no job in politics more suited for a home economics major than Missouri governor. The Capitol needs a serious house-cleaning, and that's just for starters.
Have you seen the amount of food dished out daily in that place? Who bakes all that stuff? Who decides between Sterno or candles, paper plates or plastic? And how do you get the creases that straight when folding napkins?

We don't understand why Republican gubernatorial candidate Dave Spence, a successful St. Louis businessman, would mislead the public about the true nature of his college degree, as the Post-Dispatch's Jake Wagman reported this week. Mr. Spence has been boasting of a degree in economics. Yes, but it's home economics from what Mizzou now grandly calls its College of Human Environmental Sciences.

Home ec these days is not just cupcakes and starched aprons, if it ever was. It's human and child development, nutrition, personal finance, textile management. Whatever Mr. Spence learned there he put to good use in building a plastic bottle company that made him a fortune.
Our advice: Embrace home ec. Tell the voters you not only can bring home the bacon, but fry it nice and crisp and serve it on Limoges china. Courtesy of St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Doesn't Home Economist Spence look dapper in a chef's hat? Why did he fudge his college credentials?

A GUY WHO HAS BECOME A NATIONAL JOKE WANTS TO BE MISSOURI'S NEXT GOVERNOR!

It happened to Dave Spence after he was busted for DWI by Ladue police in St. Louis at 3 AM in the morning! One more thing: He was 47 years old and a millionaire! What was a 47-year old millionaire home economist doing outside his home in the wee hours of the morning in August 2004? Can you trust this man in the Governor's mansion?

Dave Spence's $8,000,000 estate with a golf course. What was he doing outside his posh home besides boozing when he was busted for DWI? Can you trust such a man with serious character flaw to be Missouri's next Governor?

Millionaire Home Economist Spence lives in a $8,000,000 estate and
is worth $265,000,000 so Don't Worry Be Happy! He is part of the 1%

Past ghost visits millionaire Spence: He is caught lying about the bailout fiasco and more!

"Meanwhile, the Missouri Republican Party is once again struggling to find a mainstream candidate who is up to the task.  It’s hard to imagine Republicans uniting around a guy like David Spence, who spent his first three days as a candidate trying to explain his actions overseeing a bank that took a $40 million government bailout and failed to pay the taxpayers back.  To make matters worse, Spence was caught lying about why he left the bank and how much he personally profited from the government bailout.
"The only thing Missouri taxpayers know about David Spence is that he cares more about his own personal profits than respecting their money." Read more>>

Caricature of Home Economist Dave Spence!

Doesn't Home Economist Dave Spence look dapper in a Chef's hat?
Isn't it amazing that the guy who used to be called millionaire Dave Spence is now known as Home Economist Dave Spence! The rough and tumble of politics! A man worth $265,000,000 and lives in a $8,000,000 palace with golf course is now being dogged by bloggers and the rest of the mass media!

Adding humor to the caricature of Dave Spence as a TARP-loving and Bible-thumping conservative hypocrite (click the link) who has been caught lying about why he resigned from the bank that took $42,000,000 TARP bailout and refused to pay it back!

Dave Spence says to Missouri voters I am worth $265 million
and I live in a $8 million mansion in St. Louis, I got busted for DWI
at the age of 47 in 2004, I fudged my college credentials! DON'T
WORRY BE HAPPY! ELECT ME. My bank took a $42,000,000
bailout, I benefited from the bailout  and my bank refused to
pay back the taxpayers' money. Click the right-pointing
arrow to watch the YouTube video and listen to the song.

Would you trust a guy who presides over a bank that took $42,000,000 TARP bailout and then refused to pay the federal funds? Spence resigned from the bank's Board of Directors when he realized that the TARP bailout was going to be a political liability in the 2012 governor's race. He says he never benefited from the TARP bailout which is a lie. The guy has a serious credibility problem.

Mr. Spence intends to buy his way into the Governor's mansion by spending $2,000,000 of his own money for a start.

He got busted for DWI in the wee hours of the morning at the age of 47 in 2004! He fudged his college credentials by listing on his website he has a degree in economics instead of home economics, which he majored in at Mizzou! He lied about the federal TARP (bank bailout)! We believe the guy is a pathological liar.

What other lies about Spence are out there? What other skeletons does he have in his closet? Bloggers are scrutinizing his social life to find out if there are hidden scandals!

Dave Spence is a typical tea tard running for office this year...

He tells the constituents that he has a degree in “economic”, but forgot to mention the fact that his degree is actually in Home Economics! See? So typical. Lie, lie, deceitful, lie

From STL Today:
On his campaign website, Republican Dave Spence, the plastics guru running for governor, says he “earned a degree in Economics” from the University of Missouri.
That may be true — but it is not entirely accurate.
According to the university, Spence’s degree is not in economics. It is in home economics.
The school says that Spence majored in family economics and management — also called consumer economics —which earned him a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Home Economics in 1981.

Despite fudging his college credentials, getting busted for DWI 3 AM in the  morning,  refusing to repay the tax payers' $40,000,000 after benefiting from it and lying about it, let's give where credit is due: Home Economist Dave Spence looks dapper in the chef's hat. Doesn't he?

We recommend that Spence drop out of the Governor's race, open a chain of restaurants after the plastic bottle business, cook really healthy food because he is a home economist so that we can loose some weight. He also needs to open day care centers across the state because of his training. We also recommend that he open training facilities to train a lot of our American women and men who are crazy about credit cards. If you embrace our recommendations you will become a billionaire. Don't waste your money because Missouri ain't gonna elect you Governor in 2012.

HOW WILL MISSOURI VOTERS TAKE YOU SERIOUSLY? YOU HAVE BECOME A HOUSEHOLD JOKE! YOU ARE WORTH MORE THAN A QUARTER OF A BILLION DOLLARS YET YOU'VE BECOME A LAUGHING STOCK!

A man who fudged his resume wants to be our next Governor! He must be kidding himself. He needs to take refuge in his $8,000,000 home and bake yummy cakes for his family and wealthy friends. How can a man worth $265,000,000 lie about his resume?
Home Economist Dave Spence's $8,000,000 state in Ladue, a suburb in St. Louis. Why would a man who lives in such a palace lie about his resume? He claimed to be an economist instead of home economist! Ca we trust him with the Governor's mansion?

Hey, it says Economics in the title. That counts, right?

Dave Spence, "economics" candidate for Missouri Governor.

A politician inflating his/her achievments is nothing new.  Let’s face it, it’s like a dog taking a leak on a fire hydrant.  They just can’t help themselves.

If I tried to link all the examples of politicians puffing up their records, I’d crash the Internet, and then you’d all blame me when you couldn’t read up about the latest Kardashian business venture or Lindsay Lohan’s latest trip to jail/rehab/Vegas club.  I don’t want to be blamed for that, so we’ll just stick with the story I’m about to tell.

Dave Spence is a Republican running for governor in Missouri.  He has gone around the state for weeks on end, talking about his economics degree and how he’s a perfect fit as governor because he’ll know how to tackle the state’s budget woes.  He’s Dave Spence, economics degree holder, and he’ll fix your fiscal insolvency!

Poor Dave, he’s not an economics degree holder, he’s a degree holder in HOME economics.  That’s right, Dave Spence graduated from the University of Missouri in 1981 with a degree in how to be just like Betty Crocker and Martha Stewart combined!

Now, I can understand how Dave would be embarrassed by this.  I mean, who wants to talk about getting a degree in home economics?  A program designed for women back in the days when that was all women could aspire to because not having something hanging between your legs was considered a career disqualifier….yeah, even women wouldn’t want to say they have a degree in THAT, but a dude?  He’d be sentenced to a lifetime of Miller Lite commercials about his lack of manliness (side note: Miller Lite is one of the worst “beers” in existence. If they put their promotional costs into quality costs, maybe they’d have something.)

So of course Dave tried to weasel out of this. From the Post-Dispatch: “He acknowledged that the description of his degree on the campaign’s website may be misleading — “If you want me to change it, I will,” Spence said Monday — but as of Tuesday afternoon, the biography section was unchanged.” See here. On Thursday, the site was finally updated to reflect his HOME economics degree.

And when the AP pointed out Dave’s flyers also touted his economics degree from Missouri’s School of Business at U-Mizz, you got this: “I have said all along that I will not or do not lie,” he said. “A lot of this is overblown, as I was not aware of any place that said business school.”

Lesson of this story? If you’re running for office, just say where you graduated from. Don’t say what your degree was in, and definitely DON’T LIE.  Save the embarassment for things like having a baby puke on you, or tripping on airplane stairs. Courtesy of Naked D.C.

Dave Spence, Missouri Gubernatorial Candidate, Changes College Biography

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Missouri gubernatorial candidate Dave Spence changed his online biography Thursday to fix a claim about a college economics degree and acknowledged that his campaign also had distributed fliers wrongly asserting that he attended business school at the University of Missouri.

The biographical adjustments come as Spence – a St. Louis businessman making his first political campaign – has been traveling the state trying to ramp up his challenge to Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon in 2012 elections. Spence's campaign has emphasized his business acumen.

Spence, 53, has a degree in home economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia. But the biography on his campaign website originally omitted the word "home" while describing his economics degree – a fact first reported earlier this week by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Spence acknowledged that the description may have been misleading.

On Thursday, Spence's website was changed to remove any reference to a degree, stating merely that he attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. Later Thursday, the website was changed again to provide a more elaborate description of his college experience.

His website biography now states: "After high school, Dave attended the University of Missouri-Columbia where he majored in family economics and management (also known as consumer economics) and earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Home Economics."

It wasn't the first time that Spence's biography had to be changed.

The Associated Press obtained a copy Thursday of a Spence campaign flier that had been distributed at a Republican Party event that Spence attended Dec. 6 in the St. Louis area. The flier claimed: "After high school, Dave attended University of Missouri-Columbia School of Business and earned a degree in Economics."

But Spence never attended the university's business school. His degree in home economics was awarded through a different school at the university.

Spence said in emails Thursday to the AP that he didn't know his campaign materials had included the business school claim.

"I have said all along that I will not or do not lie," Spence said. "A lot of this is overblown, as I was not aware of any place that said business school."

Spence later added: "I will take responsibility for this. I did not catch the mistake on early campaign literature."

Spence campaign manager Jared Craighead said the statement about the business school was a "staff oversight that was corrected." The flier distributed in December also listed the wrong dates for when Spence had received awards from the Missouri Chamber of Commerce

The Missouri Democratic Party said Thursday that Spence's education assertions are more than mere oversights.

"If David Spence can't tell the truth about something as basic as his college degree, Missourians shouldn't believe a word that comes out of his mouth. This guy is just shameless," said state Democratic Party spokeswoman Caitlin Legacki. Courtesy of Huffington Post

Tell Spence to Come Clean!

Tell Spence to Come Clean!

Dave Spence has been giving Missouri voters the runaround. For years, Spence helped run a bank that got caught making risky loans and took a $40 million federal bailout. Spence supported taking that bailout, but to make matters worse, Spence's bank still hasn't repaid the taxpayers.
Spence's bank got a big bailout, while you - the taxpayer - got a $40 million tab. Missouri voters deserve better.

Sign this petition and demand that Spence come clean about his record at this failing bank and how much he benefited from the $40 million bailout:

Our addition:

Dave Spence needs to return the $40,000,000 bailout his bank got  and he benefited from it.
Dave Spence lives in this $8,000,000 palace yet he refused to  repay American taxpayers  the $40,000,000 he and his bank owe. He is also worth $265,000,000. Do Missourians know that home economist Spence is richer than Spence?

Dave Spence could hardly carry the $40,000,000  taxpayers money he and his bank benefited from! He's worth $265,000,000 but has refused to pay back American taxpayers the $40,000,000 TARP money.

After having done all this, Dave Spence says Don't Worry Be Happy! elect me your next Governor.

Lying candidate threatens reliability, future political opportunities, Truman State University Index

Politicians lie. It's common knowledge. Whether it be a measly fib or a far stretch from the truth, it happens all the time. Usually it is infuriating when the public realizes the lies they've been fed, but the most recent fib of Missouri Republican gubernatorial candidate David Spence is more humorous than irritating.

Spence's official biography on spenceforgov.org claimed he graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia's School of Business with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Economics in 1981. Spence had omitted an important word from his education description — "home." That's right, Spence's degree actually was in home economics — an entirely different field. In fact, he did not attend the School of Business, because he did not have the grades to make the cut, according to abcnews.go.com.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch was the first to call this to Spence's attention last week, and his online biography now includes the changes, stating, "After high school, Dave attended the University of Missouri-Columbia where he majored in family economics and management (also known as consumer economics) and earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Home Economics."

Spence has attributed this fib to simply "staff oversight that was corrected," according to ABC News. This would be an acceptable excuse had Spence not lied about the same information in a 1989 St. Louis Post-Dispatch article, in which Spence first stated he got his degree in Economics and graduated from Mizzou's School of Business.

Spence shouldn't have been ashamed of his Home Economics degree in the first place. What's so wrong with polishing your skills in child development, nutrition and personal financing? It certainly helped him gain success in his bottle and jar manufacturing company, Alpha Packaging. Spence just recently stepped down from his position as president and chief executive at the plastic bottle manufacturing plant. The plant made $350,000 in annual sales — not too bad, Spence.

So my question to Spence is, why tell a tall tale about your educational past when, in actuality, your degree served you well?  I'm sure nobody would have questioned your abilities after proving yourself capable at Alpha Packaging.

Now Spence has just dug his grave with something that could have been avoided. Because of his actions, the term "liar" is being viciously tossed around throughout the political world. Just ask Caitlin Legacki, spokeswoman for the Missouri Democratic Party, who said, "It's hard to say what's more disturbing: the fact that David Spence has been lying about his academic record for more than 20 years, or that even after getting caught, Spence still hasn't corrected all of his campaign materials.  Either way, misleading voters about your academic credentials is pretty shameless," according to Missouridems.org.

Not only is his reliability being questioned, but many are unsure of whether they would want someone so self-conscious running the state. By not giving his real credentials, Spence shows voters he is ashamed of his past, and perhaps is uneasy about whether he really is qualified for Missouri Governor. I don't know about you, but I don't want anyone in charge who is not completely confident in his or her abilities.

This all might seem harsh, but politics is a dog-eat-dog business and there is a lot of pressure that comes with running for office. But because this is Spence's first time running for office, maybe he should take the hint that he might not be ready to handle this responsibility. You would think his Home Economics degree would prepare him for this, but Spence, if you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. Courtesy of Truman State University Index
